EDSA-Quezon Ave. Interchange Project
Description: Construction of grade separation of EDSA and Quezon Blvd.
Location: Quezon City, Philippines
Client: Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)
Type of Services: Detailed Design and Construction Management
Project Cost: 758 Million Php
Date of Completion: December 2002
Located in the northern part of Metro Manila, where Quezon Ave. crosses EDSA.The intersection of EDSA-Quezon Ave. is now among the busiest in Metro Manila. When the MRT-3 proposed a grade separated crossing across Quezon Ave.,KEI assisted DPWH in finding a way
to improve the highway capacity before the railway transit station would begin and that would put heavy strain on the Intersectionís capacity.

The traffic demand already exceeded the capacity and decided that improvements to EDSA and Quezon Ave. were required before construction on the MRT-3. The original design calculations, drawings, specifications and contract documents were prepared by KEI.

After KEIís completion of the detailed design for this interchange, MRTC decided to relocate the Quezon Ave. Station from the north side to the south side of Quezon Ave. This necessitates realignment and redesign of the various components of this project. KE ASIA,in coordination with KEI, and MRTC, and DPWH prepared the redesign of this interchange taking into account the new location of the MRT Station. Existing plans have been revised to suit the new requirements
for alignment.

The construction includes two grade separated 3-lane Viaducts crossing Quezon Avenue on EDSA.

The depressed section requires enhancements of downstream drainage creeks and construction of emergency pumping stations for storm water overflow.

The redesign of the flyover includes: (a)study of realignment to suit the requirement of MRT Station relocation, (b)design revision of three(3) span continuous pre-stressed concrete viaduct,(c)PC hollow slab depressed structures(d)drainage system and(e)revision of Construction Contract Documents.
