Makati Loop Project
Description: Construction of Depressed Structure for LRT along EDSA and Ayala Ave.
Location: Makati City, Philippines
Client: Ayala Land Inc.
Type of Services: Detailed Design Review and Construction Management
Date of Completion: March 1999
The construction of the EDSA-Pasay-Ayala Ave. Interchange requires a depression of the EDSA MRT-3 to allow grade separation of the left turning viaduct from Ayala Ave. to EDSA thus minimizing traffic disturbance at this intersection. Ayala Land, Inc., forseeing the need to connect the central business district of Makati City, decided to implement the Makati Loop Project. A connecting tunnel for the future Makati Loop subway system was inserted underneath the viaduct and the MRT-3 rail approach to the station at SM. This depressed structure integrates six (6) lanes of highway and MRT-3 occupying the center median. KE ASIA was called upon to review the design of the 200m Makati Loop provision tunnel and undertake the necessary revisions required for the left turn viaduct and EDSA MRT to make the twin track connection. The scope of work includes the (a) review and fitting of the detailed design of the EDSA MRT Makati Tunnel Connection, the left turn viaduct and all other adjacent structures, and (b) construction supervision of the tunnel connection including ground anchors, large diameter bored piles and soil cement diaphragm wall.
